City Manager Mary Bunting is set to present an overview of her proposed budget for the next fiscal year during City Council's afternoon work session on Wednesday, April 10. In addition to the budget, there will be a presentation of the proposed 5-year Capital Improvement Plan, outlining major investments the city is planning.
Ahead of the budget discussion, there will be an update on the City Council strategic priority on family resilience and economic empowerment. According to the announcement, the aim is to assist families and individuals in poverty to move towards financial empowerment and self-sufficiency.
During the session, three presentations will be given. The first presentation will be conducted by MGT Consulting, sharing the findings of its poverty study. The second presentation will come from the City's Department of Economic Development, highlighting the department's efforts to support individuals in achieving economic independence. The third presentation will be from the City's Department of Human Services, focusing on the department's current initiatives in the field of Family Resilience and Economic Empowerment.
In the evening meeting, two public hearings are scheduled. One involves George restaurant seeking permission to expand its indoor live entertainment performance area and extend operating hours for live music. The second hearing pertains to TC Green, seeking a permit to operate a private school at a new location.
City property transfers and easements for VDOT are listed on the agenda but are expected to be postponed to a future meeting. The day will commence with a closed session at 9 a.m., followed by the work session at 1 p.m. and the meeting at 6:30 p.m., all happening in Council Chambers at City Hall. These sessions will be broadcast live on Cox 47 and Verizon Fios 22 and streamed at hampton.gov/tv.
