Stellar Shooting Sends Women's Hoops Past Lynchburg

Randolph-Macon women's basketball hit the road for a midweek ODAC matchup at Lynchburg for their second matchup of the season. The Yellow Jackets had their best offensive output of the season to down the Hornets, 85-64.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 87, Lynchburg 65

Location/Venue: Lynchburg, Va./Lynchburg University/Turner Gymnasium

Records: Randolph-Macon (18-6, 14-3 ODAC), Lynchburg (7-17, 6-11 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • For the second straight game, RMC scored the first seven points of the game, as a Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) triple opened the game and a seven-point scoring run for RMC. The Yellow Jackets were hot from the field, opening a 19-9 lead, and taking a 21-13 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Hornets brought it within three in the opening 1:17 of the second quarter, but more hot shooting kept the Yellow Jackets ahead throughout. RMC closed the half on a 9-3 run that extended the lead to 10, 44-34.
  • The first five minutes of the third quarter were even, until freshman Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and senior Haley Pasqualone (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) each knocked down a three to spark a 10-0 run that extended the lead to 22. Sophomore Marisa Ziegler (Forest, Md./John Carroll) hit a pair of threes in the final 33 seconds of the quarter to extend it to 25 heading to the final frame.
  • The Yellow Jackets were in cruise control the rest of the way, as five different players scored in the fourth quarter to close out an 87-65 win over the Hornets.
By the Numbers:

  • The offense was clicking, as RMC saw four players in double figures, led by junior Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) with 21 points on 10-13 from the field. She also compiled six assists and four rebounds on the night.
  • Juliana Park was efficient from beyond the arc and inside, shooting 7-9 from the field and 3-5 from three to total 18 points for RMC.
  • Fifth year senior Cheridan Hatfied (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) scored and assisted, posting 12 points and nine assists.
  • Marisa Ziegler also had 12 points, all of which came on four threes from the outside.
  • Morgan Miller also had a great game, posting eight points on two threes, as well as nine rebounds.
  • The offense was at its best tonight, shooting 59.6% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets also compiled 25 assists, a season-high and the first time over 20 assists this season.
  • RMC once again outrebounded their opponent, holding a 37-21 advantage on the boards over the Hornets.
